Rotary Public Speaking Competition

This was our second year of participating in the District Rotary Public Speaking competition, and the quality of the prepared speeches by the High School Students was a delight to listen to. The speeches had to include a reference to the Rotary Four-Way test. The adjudicators stated it was a difficult choice, but Morisset High Student Josephine Rose was declared the winner and will go on to represent Morisset and Surrounds in the second round. Josephine gave an insightful speech questioning whether we can rely on AI to always give us the truth. A huge thank you to Morisset High student Monique Dickason, and Heritage College student Mikayla Spoor, who both represented their schools with quality speeches. Appreciation also goes to the guest adjudicators, Lion’s Dale Hennessey, Morisset Primary Teacher, Tori Baudinette, and Liz Alderdice from Rotary.

Morisset Rotary Supports Heaven Can Wait Sailing Regatta

Morisset Rotary continues its proud support of the Heaven Can Wait (HCW) Charity Sailing Regatta, a much-loved local event that combines community spirit with life-changing impact.

This year, 50 yachts will take to the water, continuing a 20-year tradition that has now raised more than $820,000 for the NSW Cancer Council.

As a long-standing primary sponsor, Morisset Rotary was honoured to be recognised recently for its continued support.  2025-26  Club President Peter Comino proudly accepted a Silver Sponsor Certificate of Appreciation from Tim Turner (Toronto Sunrise Rotary and HCW Committee Member).

Supporting Those Who Need It Most

Funds raised this year included:

  • $75,000 to the Cancer Council
  • $5,000 to Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie

These contributions make a real difference locally.

Cancer Council funding directly supports the Home Help Service in the Hunter Region, assisting local residents undergoing cancer treatment. The service provides a one-off $350 payment to help cover household bills and everyday expenses—easing the financial burden during an incredibly challenging time.

In addition, funds support the Transport to Treatment Program, where volunteer drivers help patients attend medical appointments. Last year alone, this service provided 2,078 trips, ensuring patients could access essential care.

How the Community can help.

Every Morisset Rotary fundraiser plays a part in making this support possible.

So when you:

  • Grab a sausage at a Bunnings BBQ
  • Buy a ticket in an online meat raffle
  • Support the Christmas raffle
  • Attend a Morisset Rotary fundraising event

—you are directly helping provide practical, meaningful assistance to people in your community.

Warmth Without Walls: Epic Day of Service

Warmth Without Walls
What a beautiful display of community spirit and generosity.

As part of Rotary’s Epic Day of Service, Morisset Rotary, in partnership with Morisset Salvation Army and CALM Inc, held the Warmth Without Walls winter blanket appeal. We were truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our community, with donations pouring into Bonnells Bay Community Centre from people wanting to help those doing it tough this winter.

On 16 May, we hosted a free BBQ and collection point at Rotary Park, Doyalson Street, Morisset, where anyone in need — or anyone supporting someone in need — was invited to collect bedding and warm items to help make the colder months a little more comfortable.

The Stay Foundation also attended, providing food support and winter warmers for dogs sleeping rough alongside their owners.

Any items not collected on the day are now being distributed through local community services and agencies to people sleeping rough or facing hardship.

One comment shared on the day deeply touched us. As a gentleman collected a pillow, doona and blanket, he quietly said, “I haven’t had a pillow in two years.”

Our community should feel incredibly proud of the care and compassion shown through this initiative. Not only were people supported with warmth and dignity, but many good-quality items were also saved from landfill and given a new purpose and life.

We hope to run this appeal again next year, so please hold onto any spare blankets or bedding items you may be able to donate in the future.

Morisset Rotary Inaugural Triv Night Out

Our Inaugural Triv Night Out was a fabulous success. We sold over 91 tickets and raised over $2000 for the Rotary Foundation. This is money that will flow back into our Community to assist in local projects. A huge thanks to local businesses who donated raffle prizes, in particular to Morisset Bunnings, Morisset Main Street Pharmacy and Cooranbong Pharmacy. The team from East Maitland won the trophy, but can they hold onto it next year?

AUSSIE ARK- ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY WEEKEND (April 2026)

We are so grateful for the opportunities we have had to work with the wonderful rangers at Aussie Ark up at Barrington Tops. We have just had our last weekend working bee, weeding, painting, water blasting, all in between some great laughs, and wonderful food and wine. Some of us even managed a dawn ANZAC service. It has been a fabulous project which has enabled Rotary to support the work of Aussie Ark, especially in the management of their sanctuary and the Pigmy Wombat species recovery programme. We doubt this is the end of our collaboration with Aussie Ark and with East Maitland Rotary.

SIMS Cambodia RAWCS Volunteer Experience

Several of our club and partners have just returned for 12 days in Cambodia, Siem Reap and the surrounding areas. We were lucky enough to join fellow Rotarians from RC East Maitland on their SIMS Cambodia RAWCS project. During our time there, we built houses, conducted health checks for babies and women, provided dental education, and organised singing and sports activities for kids. In our spare time, we visited some NGO’s doing incredible community development works and saw the work of the Hero Rats in detecting land mines. We laughed a lot over a few beers in the swim-up pool and generally, really came to appreciate the value of Rotary on the global stage and in our own lives. DOGS DAY OUT – Supporting Women with Pets to leave DV

On the 30th of November in Rotary Park, we had the first of what we hope will be an annual Dogs Day Out BBQ. This event was to raise funds for and awareness of the work of the Stay Foundation in supporting women and children to leave DV when they have pets. Over $500 in pet food and supplies were donated as well as funds raised at the BBQ.  The fur babies had a fabulous time.

IT’S NEW, IT’S EXCITING AND IT COULD GIVE YOU $1000 JUST IN TIME FOR XMAS

We are moving with the times, and the well-supported Rotary Christmas Trailer has been reborn into an online and in-person raffle, with a prize of 3 x $1000 debit cards. At a time when the cost of living is on everyone’s mind, we have embraced new technologies, which means you can now buy your raffle ticket via a QR code for just $5 or come down and see us at Morisset Square.

MORISSET ROTARY SUPPORTING OTHERS WHO SUPPORT OUR LEGENDS.

As Rotarian’s we love a good community agricultural show, even more than a sausage sizzle. It’s an opportunity to connect with our community, to sell some raffle tickets and to have some fun. This year was no exception. Some of us supported the Show with parking duties others ran the Rotary Stall. We had a raffle where the first prize was a $300 cash debit card and the second a $100 Bunning voucher. The money raised will go towards the Care Packs for women in need that are distributed through CALM Inc and the Bonnels Bay Salvation Army.

This year we had the honour to celebrate with Dan Repacholi MP in his Big Shave for Charity with a donation of $1000. The funds will be split between the Mark Huges Foundation (50%), The Royal Flying Doctors Service (25%) and Care Flight (25%). Dan attended the stall and was very appreciative of the works of Rotary in the Community and supporting these three amazing charities. He particularly liked the AI image of what he will look like post the Big Shave. Please talk to us if you would like to know more about Rotary in your local community.
