Warmth Without Walls: Epic Day of Service

Warmth Without Walls
What a beautiful display of community spirit and generosity.

As part of Rotary’s Epic Day of Service, Morisset Rotary, in partnership with Morisset Salvation Army and CALM Inc, held the Warmth Without Walls winter blanket appeal. We were truly overwhelmed by the generosity of our community, with donations pouring into Bonnells Bay Community Centre from people wanting to help those doing it tough this winter.

On 16 May, we hosted a free BBQ and collection point at Rotary Park, Doyalson Street, Morisset, where anyone in need — or anyone supporting someone in need — was invited to collect bedding and warm items to help make the colder months a little more comfortable.

The Stay Foundation also attended, providing food support and winter warmers for dogs sleeping rough alongside their owners.

Any items not collected on the day are now being distributed through local community services and agencies to people sleeping rough or facing hardship.

One comment shared on the day deeply touched us. As a gentleman collected a pillow, doona and blanket, he quietly said, “I haven’t had a pillow in two years.”

Our community should feel incredibly proud of the care and compassion shown through this initiative. Not only were people supported with warmth and dignity, but many good-quality items were also saved from landfill and given a new purpose and life.

We hope to run this appeal again next year, so please hold onto any spare blankets or bedding items you may be able to donate in the future.
