ShelterBox

Our Rotary Club supports ShelterBox, an international partner program of Rotary International, to help devastated communities with Emergency Disaster Relief.

Leaving No One Without Shelter After Disaster

Shelter is a human right and the first step towards recovery after disaster.

Shelter is so much more than just a roof. It is the foundation for life, people and communities. It is a place to feel safe, offers protection from harsh weather, privacy, and helps to preserve dignity. It is a space to heal from trauma.

Shelter and other essential items help people protect themselves from diseases like coronavirus and malaria. Emergency shelter can also prevent communities from scattering. This means people stay connected and build resilience together.
DISASTER RELIEF
Right now, around 85 million people around the world have been made homeless by natural disaster and conflict.
ShelterBox and Rotary are working to change this.
ESSENTIAL SHELTER
ShelterBox is made up of people who believe in shelter as a human right - that shelter from the chaos of disaster and conflict is vital. No 'if's. No 'but's.
CATASTROPHIES
Amid nature's catastrophes and mankind's cruellest impulses, ShelterBox response teams of volunteers are ready. From earthquakes to the continuing refugee trails, ShelterBox has helped hundreds of thousands of displaced households.
ADAPTABLE
Boxes are adapted to fit the emergency before being sent at little notice. Most boxes include family-size tents, with solar lights, water storage & purification equipment, thermal blankets, and cooking utensils.

Items like solar lights, tents, tarpaulins, tools, blankets, mosquito nets, cooking sets and water filters help to meet the most urgent needs for people recovering from disaster. They can start to earn a living, send children to school, and rebuild their homes.

Recovery doesn’t happen overnight, but a dry and warm place to sleep, prepare meals, and be with your family is the vital first step.

The Rotary Club of Morisset is an active and proud supporter of ShelterBox. We help raise funds to purchase resources and ensure they are delivered to where they are needed.

Malawi Artisan Training and Demonstration, 2024

During ShelterBox’s response to flooding in the Nkhotakota District of Malawi, along with our partner CARE Malawi, the team held an Artisan training and demonstration session. Local Artisans were shown the materials that were being provided to people, and how best to use them to construct temporary shelters.
