DANTIA EVENING

Rotary Morisset hosted an evening for local Morisset businesses at the Yard Brewery on Wednesday 28 May at which the guest speaker was Tim Browne, CEO of Dantia, Lake Macquarie’s economic development company.

He spoke about Dantia’s mandate, a not-for-profit initiative and the Circular Economy Living Lab that it is seeking to foster. He spoke about the achievements thus far but also the challenges for the area many of which issues are for the Council or State to address.

The discussion led to a lengthy question and answer session traversing many issues which will need to be addressed to the Council at another time. Foremost, and supported vigorously by attendees, was the need for a Visitors Centre on the way in to Morisset to provide information, both recreational and business, for people visiting or transiting the area.

The requirement for a central shopping precinct and more short term, hotel or motel rooms was also mentioned as well as the need for a greater choice of places for such visitors to eat in the evenings.

The opportunity was also taken to introduce Darren Brailey, Principal of Morisset High School, mentioning the requirement for work experience opportunities for Year 10 + students as well as the Laptop Project for which Rotary Morisset is currently raising funds.

In conclusion it was noted that the demise of the South Lakes Business and Community Alliance during covid owing to the inability to meet and maintain a member base by which to meet expenses, ended the cohesion of local businesses and with it the opportunity to run training sessions and share ideas as to the needs of the area.

Some ideas then emerged as to how to relaunch and revive that organisation or something similar to enable better communication with all the new businesses that are anticipated for the area.
